NI - SSP TEMPORARY CHANGES

SSP TEMPORARY CHANGES - The Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) rules have been temporarily amended in Northern Ireland and Great Britain to extend the self-certification period from 7 days to 28 days.

It is hoped that this will free up GP’s time and allow them to prioritize administering Covid-19 booster vaccinations.

This new rule will apply from 17 December 2021 where:-

  • The spell of sickness started during the period 17 December 2021 – 26 January 2022 or

  • The spell of sickness commenced prior to 17 December 2021 but has not lasted more than 7 days on that date (as the requirement to provide medical evidence will not have arisen at that point).

This is a temporary measure only applying to absences that commenced on or before 26 January 2022.
